So, I'm Robin4 on FFN and AO3, and toseehowthestoryends on tumblr (because, apparently, I couldn't be smart enough to use the same username on both). I'm continuing Ruins of Camelot this year for NaNo...mostly because I know it has over 50k left to it, and even if I write 150k, it probably still won't be done. This is my seventh year doing NaNoWriMo and my second year writing OUAT fanfiction for it. I'm utterly stoked that we have our own board and places to talk to one another!

Woah that's a superlong fic you're working on!!! Even longer than Heart of the Ship will probably end up being... (I'm guessing mine will be done at about 180000 words - or that is what I hope at this point.)

I'm really, really hoping that ROC will be more in the 400k range - or maybe shorter if I can tighten things up. I'm generally terrible at guessing how long my stories will be, so this time I just took my guess and added 100k. We'll see if that works or not... I did think that FOTS was going to be 50-60 chapters, and it wound up at 102. This is, unfortunately, typical of me. My "40 page story" in another fandom turned out to be three 40+ chapter stories, a prequel, and well over 1200 pages total.

I am AMAZED at the length of your stories. And the complexities of them. Have you ever seriously thought about writing some epic fantasy original work? Because you have such amazing and unique ideas and I would totally 100% buy something written by you.

Because you have such amazing and unique ideas and I would totally 100% buy something written by you. Oh, my. *Runs and hides*. Meep. Okay. Now that I'm a little more coherent, I'll actually answer your question. I do have an original fantasy story that I've been working on for years (as in, there's about 15 different versions of it on my hard drive and I first got the idea in 2002). I'm almost done with the first part of it, which would be book 1 of heavens only knows how many. I need to finish it and do some serious editing...but then I'm going to actually try submitting it to publishers. *gulp*. I'm planning on doing this when I finish ROC - one of the many reasons I'm doing ROC for NaNo is to buy myself some breathing space, since I want to finish that novel off between ROC and my next big project. I'm not sure if anyone is actually interested in what the story is, but just because I am trying so hard to stop trying to hide behind a rock and learn to promote myself, here it is: Night Rider: Evendar's greatest heroes lost the war, and now the next generation must try to wrest their nation from the hands of their conquerors. Nikolas Astel is supposedly destined for greatness, the son of a politician and the descendant of a legend, but he's never fit the mold the Council tries to shoehorn him into. When he meets an outlaw who calls himself Shade, however, everything begins to change. The Night Rider will teach Nikolas many things--first amongst which is that no one can make you into a hero. And becoming a legend is not a choice most survive making. In short, it's what happens if you cross ancient Rome with Camelot, and then have the good guys lose the war. You get a sheltered bunch of young noblemen in the next generation who want to make it right, without having any understanding of how the common people are suffering or why those people would never want to fight for them. Until Shade shows up as the only person willing to tell them the truth the Council has hidden from. Except, of course, Shade has secrets of his own that might just blow up in everyone's faces.

Oh that sounds FASCINATING. And yes, promote the hell out of it! Goodness, thank you! Posting about it here has actually made me want to go back and finish the sucker - and take out an ongoing plot point that I really think needs to go away. The problem with having had this one huge story in your mind for so many years is that you get terrified that you're unworthy of writing it...but one of these days I'm just going to finish it and start sending it out. For realisies.
